RNS60 ENHANCES MITOCHONDRIAL ATP PRODUCTION

January 2015

A study published by a group at New York University shows that RNS60 changes the electrophysiological properties of the cell membrane of Xenopus laevis oocytes through a direct effect on mitochondria. The authors of the paper also directly measured ATP production, which was elevated in oocytes exposed to RNS60.

Mitochondria are the power plants of our cells. A decline in their number as well as compromised mitochondrial function are increasingly linked to the development and progression of neurodegenerative diseases. The ability to boost mitochondrial function holds the potential for the treatment of these diseases.
